PARKS PROMENADE

On Thursday, 5th April residents in Thornhill are invited to attend a guided stroll through some of Southampton 's City Parks under the guidance of Central Parks Ranger, Gary Oscroft. The walk is an opportunity for Thornhill residents to understand more about the parks' history and to learn about the different types of monuments, plants, trees and shrubs within the parks' grounds. The walk has been organised by the Thornhill Health and Wellbeing Project (THAWP), a project jointly funded by Thornhill Plus You and Southampton City Council.

Organiser and Community Health Development Officer, Gwyneth Baker, commented: “This is a great opportunity for people to find out about the city parks' history, whilst at the same time enjoying the benefits of some gentle exercise and making new friends. We would like to encourage as many Thornhill residents as possible to come along and would be happy to welcome anyone else who would like to join us.  We would remind people that since this is an all-weather walk, people should bring with them suitable clothing for the occasion.”

Members from the Thornhill Health and Wellbeing Project will be assembling by the fountain in front of Southampton City Art Gallery to begin walking at 10a.m. Residents requiring support to travel into the city centre by bus can join THAWP members who will be leaving the Healthier Thornhill Centre, 388 Hinkler Road, Thornhill at 9a.m. For further information about the walk please call Gwyneth Baker on 023 8068 5282.
