What is domestic violence? Domestic
violence is any behaviour intended to control or intimidate
someone. This
may be:
- Physical – Hitting, kicking, choking.
- Emotional – Verbal abuse, humiliation,
blaming, threatening.
- Financial – Being kept without
money, having to account for every penny spent.
- Sexual – Rape, pornography.
- Forced Isolation.
- Any behaviour that leaves someone living
in fear.
At
other times the person may be loving and apologetic. This
can happen to anyone regardless of sex, gender or situation,
you are not alone. According to CrimeReduction.gov.uk,
"one in four women and one in six men will be a victim
of domestic violence in their lifetime." There is help
out there but victims of domestic violence need to know what
is available. Below you will find details on how to find help.
