Southampton’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy

An important step towards making Southampton one of Europe’s healthiest Cities has been taken with the publication of the first stage of a City Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

The strategy is the product of a ground breaking partnership involving Southampton City Primary Care Trust, Southampton City Council, Southampton University Hospitals Trust, Hampshire Partnership Trust and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Strategic Health Authority.

The 10 year strategy is one of the first of its kind in England and it reflects the Government’s new priorities for health and social care services. It places emphasis on the need for a greater focus on prevention in order to save the NHS and Social Services nationally billions of pounds in future. It also seeks to help local NHS and Social Services work more closely together in both community and hospital settings.
