The Thornhill Handyperson
Service was introduced in August 2005 and since then has been
doing many jobs in homes across the area. It is an extension
of the Southampton service, run by Wessex Property Services
on behalf of Southampton City Council which is restricted
primarily to undertaking jobs for home owners aged over 60.
The extra funding from Thornhill Plus You means that all Thornhill residents can benefit from the service.
Who is the Thornhill Handyperson?
David – the Thornhill Handyperson
David is multi-skilled
with over 10 year's experience. He has an advanced NVQ in
plumbing and heating, and has also obtained general building
and maintenance training at B&Q.
What can the Handyperson do?
The Thornhill Handyperson can do a range of jobs inside and outside the home that you may be unable to do yourself, with a limit of 4 hours per job. Example jobs include:
Jobs inside the home
- Fitting a new door lock, door handle or security chain
- Repairing a doorstep
- Putting up a curtain rail
- Fixing a leaking toilet or tap
Jobs outside the home
- Hedge trimming
- Grass cutting
- Strimming
- Clearing pathways
How much does the work cost?
A free assessment is available to everyone, and if you do decide to go ahead with work there are reduced rates for labour and materials. For example, a door lock could cost up to £60 through the Yellow Pages but is likely to cost about £25 through the Thornhill Handyperson, and if you receive a benefit the work could be even cheaper!
Labour costs and materials up to £25 are free if you receive certain benefits, please call to check if you are eligible.
