The Eastpoint Centre
is to be redeveloped into a flagship community and conference
centre, putting Thornhill firmly on the map.
The redevelopment of the Eastpoint
Centre is a major project for Southampton which also sees
the relocation and rebuild of Itchen College on the site. This site will
also offer a range of modern, up-to-date facilities for local
people and will increase employment opportunities for both
the community and for young people throughout the region.
Thornhill Plus You's
Board approved the Eastpoint Centre redevelopment in October
2008, marking the start of a major transformation of the area
and for the Thornhill community.
The contributions
for the £10.55 million required for the venture are
made up from Thornhill Plus You (a £4.55 million grant),
the trustees of Eastpoint Centre (£3.5 million) and
a commercial loan (£2.5 million) from Thornhill Plus
You. The return on the loan from Thornhill Plus You will be
used to continue the regeneration work in Thornhill after
the NDC government funding has ended.
Eastpoint and Itchen
College are now giving consideration to the planning applications
they need to submit. Part of the planning process requires
them to consult with local residents and organisations that
may be affected by the proposed developments.
