What is the Better Homes project?
Better Homes is giving over 2000 Southampton City Council properties and communal areas a makeover. It is a partnership between Southampton City Council and Thornhill Plus You, carried out by MITIE. The project began in 2004 and is due to finish in 2008.
Southampton City Council Tenants will receive:
- New kitchens
- New bathrooms
- Rewiring
Communal areas of walk-up blocks will receive:
- Security intercom systems
- Anti vandal glazing
- Redecorating
Thornhill Plus You have put in additional money to this scheme to ensure that all of the above can be offered to each tenant in Thornhill. This is beyond the Decent Homes standard that the Government has tasked local authorities to attain for each property they own by 2011.
A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) leaflet is available to answer your questions about the project.
The Better Homes newsletter is produced to share information about the project with Thornhill residents. It is distributed periodically to all properties in the scheme.
