Thornhill Community Festival

On Saturday 23rd September the Thornhill Community Festival kicked off once again on Hinkler Green.

This year the Festival's emphasis was very much on a family focused event that is warm, friendly and inviting to all. So that everyone felt welcome, we featured activities to suit all ages, from urban youth sports, to a tea dance for the over 50s.

The day started with the Crazy Thornhill Carnival parading their award winning new and amazing costumes through Thornhill. After this resident could spend the afternoon scaling the 20ft climbing tower, throwing themselves at the inflatable bouncy castle, mega slide and assault course, booing and cheering wrestlers in lycra leotards and being thoroughly entertained by Thornhill local talent in the main showcase arena.

Hinkler Green was overflowing with stalls and stands for residents to pick their way through. There were lots of local groups and agencies on hand for to have a chat and a chance to find out what's really going on in Thornhill. There was also a BBQ, healthy food options and tea and coffee tent.

Particularly exciting this year was the Festival's collaboration with Urban Blast and the spectacular celebration of urban sports and arts for young people. Nail biting professional and local BMX, skate and blading demonstrations and competitions, an ultimate Frisbee tournament , Brazilian soccer skills, graffiti artists and breath taking break dancing.

Thornhill Community Festival is a free community event provided by the Thornhill Community Festival Committee made up of local residents and Motiv8 Thornhill and Thornhill Plus You. Many thanks to all of our sponsors who also make the event possible with their valuable support.
