The Natterbox

What is The Natterbox?
The Natterbox is a Community and Advice Centre in the heart of Thornhill.  It is run by a team of volunteers, and is here for you to use. We aim to:

  • Include everyone in the community
  • Provide a central place for people to meet each other
  • Be a source of advice and information, where people can feel confident that what they say will be treated confidentially
  • Offer facilities that will be useful to the whole community

What do we do?
The Natterbox is used for?

  • Community drop-in sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, when local residents can pop in for a cup of tea or coffee,  to look at our wide range of leaflets and information, to browse through our second-hand books, to use our photocopier or computers, to meet friends or to ask questions about events and services available in the community.  If our volunteers don’t know the answer to your question, they will know who to ask!
  • Benefits and debt advice, during community drop-in sessions on Mondays 10.00am-12.00pm and Thursdays 9.30am-12.00pm.
  • Local community groups to hold their meetings and workshop sessions.
  • Agencies to offer services to local people in a venue that is on their doorstep.
  • Thornhill Plus You community meetings and consultation sessions.
  • Local residents to hire for private events.

Ten ways YOU can make use of the Natterbox Community Centre:

  1. Come in for some debt or benefit advice.
  2. Bring your tots to Coffee Pots for some play time on Wednesdays.
  3. Arrange to meet your friend for a cuppa during one of our community drop-ins.
  4. Come to our monthly table top sale and pick up a bargain – or even have a clear out and hire your own table, make a few pounds on some unwanted goods.
  5. Use our photocopier and have a look at the good value second hand books and baby clothes we have on offer.  Why not donate books and baby clothes you don’t need any more?
  6. Book the Natterbox for your private party or function.
  7. Come in and find out about what’s going on in your community.
  8. Make new friends and get to know local people better.
  9. Your community group could meet at the Natterbox.
  10. What would YOU like on offer in your community centre?

Would you like to join our team?
We rely on volunteers to run our community drop-in sessions.  We are always on the look out for new people to join our team.

Here is what some of our volunteers have said about the Natterbox:

“I volunteer here because it’s a friendly place.  I’ve made new friends through working here.”

“We’re always on the look out for people with different skills, from crochet to handling money.  If you’ve got a skill we can help you to use it!”

“I come into the Natterbox because I like the company – there’s a good atmosphere in here.”
“I like to help people out when they need advice and support – that’s why I started volunteering here.”

“We try to offer something for everyone in the community, so there are times when The Natterbox can be used by adults, times when it’s here for young people, times when it’s open for families with young children.  We want everyone in the community to have activities they could join in.”

“I come into the Natterbox for advice and information – it’s really good for that.”
“We need more volunteers to help with our community drop-ins, even if it’s only for an hour while the kids are at playschool!”

“We would love to have your ideas about what you would use the Natterbox for, what kind of groups you would like to have here.”
