What is the Community Chest?
The Community Chest is a small grants fund for local community groups in Thornhill.  We believe that community groups are in a brilliant position to see what the community needs and to get people on board to make it happen.  The purpose of the fund is to give community groups in Thornhill the support and resources that they need in order to make their ideas a reality.

How Does it Work?
If you have an idea for something that would make life better for people in Thornhill, whether it is a new project, some training for your group, new facilities, an event or outing, or even setting up a brand new community group, then the Community Chest could be what you need to help you access between £50 and £2,000.  Simply give us a call and we would be happy to talk over your ideas with you and give you some pointers on how to make your application a really good one.  We will then give you an application pack, and while you’re filling it out we will be just on the other end of the phone if you have any questions or get stuck.

Who Can Apply?
In order to apply you must be a community group with a constitution, which is able to demonstrate that your practices and structures are representative of and accountable to all users, beneficiaries and members.  Your group must have its own bank account, with less than £5000 uncommitted reserves.  Your application must be primarily for the benefit of Thornhill residents living in the NDC area, and it must be to fund new activities rather than those already carried out by your group.

Restrictions
We cannot accept applications from statutory agencies (e.g. the health service, council or job centres), national or regional agencies (e.g. The Princes Trust or Oxfam), or individuals who do not represent a local community organisation.
We cannot accept applications for projects or activities that are: the statutory duty of another body, religious or political in nature, for equipment that has already been purchased, for activities that have already been started, or for personal holidays.
