Carnival Training Project
To
enable residents to learn creatively, Thornhill Plus You funded
approximately £70,000 into a project called the Thornhill
Carnival Training Project.
The
Thornhill Carnival Training Project and partners TWICS (Training
for Work in Communities Southampton), offer OCN accredited
training courses for community groups to run courses in Thornhill
and across the city. Many residents train for NCFE qualifications
in carnival arts. Recently residents were able to demonstrate
their new and innovative skills at the Southampton Winter
Festival leading different sections of the parade with their
stunning, elaborate costumes.
Creative
Curriculum
Motiv8
Thornhill has been helping to run a Thornhill creative schools
project, funded by Creative Partnerships. The project provides
teacher training in carnival arts as part of the creative
curriculum, which enables school pupils to learn about school
subjects creatively. During the Southampton Winter Carnival,
Thornhill Primary schools learnt about different countries
and cultures by designing costumes based on different parts
of the world.
