SINGING TO IMPROVE HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Motiv8 Thornhill, a project jointly funded by Thornhill Plus You and Southampton City Council, have teamed up with Sing For Your Life Ltd to run music activities called the ‘Silver Song Club', for older people and their carers, every month at Fairfax Court in Thornhill.

Over 50's and their carers, come together for a fun singing session and a social get together. The sing-along, with the enthusiastic efforts from the people with varying abilities, the facilitators and volunteers, achieves a very high level of participation. Sessions are led by trained facilitators and supported on a voluntary basis by Botley Choral Society and the Thornhill Health and Wellbeing Project.

Motiv8 Thornhill and Sing For Your Life Ltd were successful in achieving funding from the Thornhill Community Health Fund at the beginning of the year. Together, the organisations have been able to fund the Silver Song Club for a number of sessions, with free transport to and from the club included. Kirsty Ball from Motiv8 Thornhill commented: “The Silver Song Club is proving to be very successful amongst residents in Thornhill. The sessions are a wonderful way to exercise the mind, soul and generally have fun.”

The next Silver Song Club will be taking place on 22nd May at 2pm – 4pm, for more information about the activities please contact Kirsty Ball or Charlotte Sharpe on 023 8091 5812, or email kball@thornhillplusyou.co.uk .
